The CSS written for this website plays with typography. The letter sizes are set in a measurement unit the traditional typesetters call quad-width (em); columns and block-level elements are set in percents. This combined with the fluid layout gives unexpected results when rendered by different browsers. And that's the beauty of the web.
No images were used for setting the user interface.
